This past month we have continued organising events and workshops for our wonderful customers. We hosted our monthly Supper Club, taking a tasty journey across Europe in our multi-cultural Easter menu. We have also had workshops such as our regular Acrylic Painting Courses, were we watched regular students create wonderful landscapes. Of course for Easter we set-up Easter trails, including hand crafted window wreaths by the wonderful Derwent Threads. Come along and follow the trails - last day Sunday 14th April.
Acrylic Painting Course - Wednesday 17th April
Experienced and friendly art tutor, Kath Rodger, will lead you from a blank canvas to completed landscape using demonstrations and personalised guidance to enhance your skills and boost your confidence. The goal is for each student to create artworks that they can truly take pride in.
This course runs every Wednesday for a duration of 4 weeks.
It is suitable for both beginners and individuals with prior painting experience who wish to explore new techniques or advance their ongoing art projects.
Join this welcoming and friendly painting course, discover the art of painting, and find new creative friends along the way.
Four week course costs £80, price includes tuition and a tea or coffee each week. Only 9 spots available, to ensure quality teaching and learning. Booking essential.
Children's Watercolour Art Class - Saturday 20th April
Help encourage your child's creativity to grow!
Monique will teach the children how to draw and then add colour to their drawings using watercolour paints, as well as blending and brush techniques.  This is a great class for those who would like to learn drawing and painting techniques with a professional artist and illustrator.
All materials will be provided. Suitable for ages 6 years and older - the session will be adapted for different ages and abilities, with new subjects for you to paint if you have already been to one of Monique's classes.
Monique will also have signed copies of her books, along with some of her other illustrated merchandise for you to look at and purchase.

Spring Meet the Maker Market - Sunday 21st April
Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host our Spring Meet the Maker Market, bringing together some of our past Meet the Makers and new local artists and creatives too!
Our markets celebrate the fantastic creative businesses we have in our local community - we specially select what stalls to have based on the season and thinking of what visitors might like to see and buy.
The market stalls include:

Dawn Chorus Bird Walk - Sunday 5th May
One of the best parts of Spring is the return of the Dawn Chorus, this is one of the UK's great natural experiences, where birds looking for love perform a symphony of songs.
Learn more in depth about the dawn chorus in the Derwent Valley by joining local ornithologist Michael Turner. He will guide you through the sometimes bewildering array of bird song, helping you identify each species by sight and sound.
Suitable for all ages - the walk will be on regular pathways with some slight gradients. Tickets only £9.50! Booking essential.
Ancestry With Anthea - Friday 10th May
Ever wanted to research your family history but don’t know where to start? Then come along to our ‘Ancestry with Anthea’ session at the Heritage Centre.
Anthea Lang has been doing family history research for over 20 years and has run many successful family history courses.
Anthea retired from her role as Gateshead Council’s Local History and Heritage Manager and has continued to help people living locally and around the world trace their family trees with her wealth of knowledge about the North East. She is also an author and has written several books about the local area.

Blacksmithing Workshops - Sunday 12th May
'True North Trades' return to the Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre, for another popular Blacksmithing Workshop!
With expert instructors guiding you, you will master the techniques of heating, shaping, bending, and twisting steel to craft a beautiful piece of art that you can cherish. During this session, participants will create feather coat hooks from a steel bar.
Immerse yourself in the timeless art of Blacksmithing and depart with a one-of-a-kind creation made by your own hands.
