Join us for an evening with local historian and author Anthea Lang for this fascinating talk 'The Landowner, the Actress and the Museum'.

When John Bowes of Gibside decided to visit Paris in 1847 he had no idea that within a few years, he would have  bought a theatre, married an actress and was thinking about establishing a museum.

Discover the background behind this unlikely story and the financial implications of his actions.

Anthea will also have signed copies of her local history books to purchase.
