About the Event

Join Entomologist Gordon Port from the Natural History Society of Northumbria on this walk discovering insects.

Situated in the lower Derwent Valley this section of the Land of Oak & Iron is a mixed landscape of woodland, meadows, riverside and historic monuments.

On this guided insect walk local entomologist Gordon Port will help identify the rich insect life to be found in the area.

Spring is a great time to observe insects - during the walk the differences between the major groups of insects will be described, some iconic species will be identified, and their intriguing life-histories discussed.

Please bring a hand lens if you have one and dress appropriately with stout footwear, waterproofs may be necessary depending on the weather. The walk will be on regular pathways with some slight gradients.

Sorry, no dogs please
